Artist Hadgu Abbai

Hadgu Abbai  is a Gold Medal (Al Quadrato Medal) winner of the 5th International Exhibition  in Piacenza Italy.

Mr. Abbai is originally from Eritrea who completed his graduate studies in Ethiopia. He earned a Diploma of Visual Art and Graphic Design from Addis Ababa, School of Fine Arts, in 1968.


He worked professionally as a graphic designer for over 30 years  at Birahanena Selam Printing Press and International Livestock Research Institute in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 

Mr. Abbai visual art practices are basically influenced by cultural, social and political activities of his country of origin, Eritrea. He uncovered the legacy of freedom, traditions and social activities through postal stamps and several oil paintings.

His work has been displayed in national and international  exhibitions and printed as  postal stamps.

Mr. Abbai also worked in Ministry of Tourism in Eritrea and restored several historical Art works.

Mr. Abbai was also a founder and Director of the General Advertising Agency (2000-2004) in Eritrea. He designed billboards, banners, signboards and painted automobiles for advertising purposes.

Currently, Mr. Abbai is living in Arlington, Virginia USA with his beloved wife, his five children and ten grandchildren.
