This portrait depicts an Eritrean farmer with traditional farm implements on his shoulder and his oxen heading to his farmland. In most parts of Eritrea, farmers still depend on oxen to till their land. Even though tractors provide more power Oxen provide fertility, better traction and can reach areas where tractors cannot. The ox is viewed as the backbone to Eritrean Agriculture since cattle and farms are the bases of the economy.
